How 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Visual Effects Were Made | Vanity Fair 영화/애니메이션
He could break down the whole movie in this style and I would watch it. Seeing how to movies get made and have a sneak peak at all the archive bts footage is such a treat. Got any take in the movie there is probably 10 different versions or angles of it we’ll never get to see.
Yeah, honestly. It's absolutely great!
Broh🔥🔥🔥
@Samuel Steiner that's cool! I'm very interested in these kind of things too, I wish he could come to my school but I'm dutch :(
Lord of the rings is perfect for this
kinda scary how there’s only 80 shots without visual effects. hats off to this dude he basically had to create the outside world digitally also I can’t imagine how tiring it must be for tom to perform 90% of the scenes in front of a green screen
a team of 100's of people, not one dude :P
scary?
Movies just have cgi on these days...
@ThunderBlastvideo and? all big movies have them now
i knew tom did a lot of his own stunts but holy crap he’s insane
@Bern why animate it at all if it's all been recorded in camera
@JㅤムㅤNㅤE they literally said that in the video mate
@IIISentorIII where's your IG or dikdok or utube channel flexing? Not your thing? You're that humble dude who treasures his anonymity, right?
@Kristian I think the comment(s) must have been removed
@IIISentorIII why don't you record and upload you doing some stunts to youtube. We would love to see.
Those scenes where you normally thought it was practical but it was actually VFX, those deserve a round of applause.
@Kelton Morgan-Smith so? I think we all know that. It's not that I even said that I enjoyed or cared about those movies either.
@no nane you realise that inifinity war and endgame were made in the exact same way right? if not even more fake with almost everything you see on screen being CGI
@Lucas ikr it gives more authentic
I know CGI can turn people off sometimes, but it's still just as much of a daunting task as creating something practical, yes I do think filmakers should strive to be somewhere in the middle, but I say if they make it seamless then that something to praise.
CGI is not even close to being real life. Still looks cartoony and it's obvious, but this is the future. The money they save on big crowds, traffk, traveling to different destinations.. can be done in a warehouse sound stage now. There's a realness that we're losing. I was watching BTS of cliffhanger. That wouldn't happen today. They don't even have to travel to Italian alps now and the danger isn't as real anymore.
@Dejan Kasapovic thats not different for a lot of practical effects lmao
With body animation, the human eye can easily spot the difference. This newest trilogy made Spider-man move like a piece of rubber the whole time and completely took me out of the film.
The Raimy trilogy spliced in tons of practical stunts and minor shots in heavy action scenes and sold the moment a 1000x better.
we seriously need more contents like this to appreciate the people who worked behind the scene...oh wow how one single frame has so many layers and details. Amazing, this movie is even greater than it already is.
Check out Fame Focus an Corridor Crew
I am an advocate for more practical effects and against overused cgi, but I will forever hold vfx artists in high regard for doing their best to recreate the world and make it look as seamless as they possibly can. When you consider the amount of time the team had, and how much they had to do, you can be more understanding of the final product. I do have issues with No Way Home's use of cgi where there really shouldn't need to be at first (I'm looking at you, Green Goblin) but I'm never going to blame the vfx team for this. It's mainly a decision made during production, especially since marvel movies seem to be increasing in number of projects coming out relatively close to each other, hence not enough time to clean up the vfx shots.
@Pablo Saucedo dude, not true. they did use cgi for things you won't notice but they did a lot more of the action sequences using practical effects and stunts
Hopefully this is just the part 1 because I wanna hear the whole story of the visual effects of the 3rd act!
Act 3
@imran ahmad comment said “visual effects of the 3rd half” before the edit
Me too
@tyler that's not mathematically logical
I love that vfx artists are called "artists" and not technicians. They truly are artists. It's magnificent
"we weren't able to put the baby in the rotisserie rig."
He is like, "we tried, but weren't able to use a toddler in car flipping stunt."
Hollywood, don't ever change.
out of context, that statement is even more disturbing lol
I have no idea how that baby thinks they're going to get hired on other movies if they refuse to do their own stunts. These toddler actors are just getting more and more molly coddled.
Kelly Port being nominated for an Oscar for this movie really shows in this breakdown. Just the detail and depth of explanation of each shot is quite fascinating for the average movie watcher to see how VFX are actually done.
Too bad Dune is gonna win. They are not even on the same level of production, not even close.
This not only helps you appreciate what goes into making these movies: it makes me appreciate Tom Holland's acting skills. He has to immerse himself in this world that doesn't exist yet in his eyes. His portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man is absolutely incredible.
Physical acting is good maybe high tier not talking about dramatic acting talking athletic stunt abilities, moving his body in space
@Forza Horizon 5 Clips Why are you so jealous? Your most recent comments are all negative things about Tom Holland and Spider-Man movies. That's pretty sad. I hope you find happiness in life.
Tom Holland actually isn't a good actor .. have you seen is his other movies lmao. He's average at best
I’m working on VFX for a Spidey fan film right now, and videos like these are like film school. Really cool to see how this came together.
Can't wait to see it
@YOUSSANEIN good one 🤣
Watch corridor crew
@Peter Parker no, It's called Miles 2
vfx artists are so undervalued, not just by people outside of the film/tv industry but the actual industry themselves seeing as how overworked and underpaid they are 🤷🏾♀️ they have to time crunch all the time and the result is people saying using cgi is lazy. i do agree that cgi can be overused, particularly because studios like to exploit cgi artists, but i would never attack the actual artists or the craft of cgi. i just hope that they have better working conditions in the future
And there’s another video titled “Life after Pie.” That proves, Visual effects artist or animators gets treated like garbage in the industry.
@Spider-Man Thank you for speaking it up. Those ignorant people who just complain about CGI are so annoying and rude
@Spider-Man yup, they're very overworked for very little pay. and i can totally understand people calling out bad cgi but even when the cgi is good people still discredit cgi artists by saying stuff like "the movie looks good because they barely used any cgi". for example, the way people talk about dune when in reality theres 1000+ vfx shots in it. its like they cant win even when they do a good job lol
@Cupcake McSparklebutt Often, regular who have no experience with CGI love to criticize it when they find out it was CGI rather than practical (real), after they’ve already praised it. We say VFX artists are under appreciated because they are. If you’ve ever taken the time to look at credits after movies, there’s a part where they mention the artists and so many other people who rarely ever get credit. It all goes to the directors, (sometimes) writers, and actors unfortunately when it comes to superhero movies. They also get paid very little which is unfair.
Wait really? Explain why please, i don't understand.
This should be done for so many more movies. It is so interesting to see how things came to life. Loving it!
@Eric Hamm why? those shots looked very real. now, they can create such scenes without blocking off highways n disrupting public life.
NOOOOOOOOOOO, absolutely not. I don't want cgi leaves and rotoscoped environments in my drama.
This is trully phenomenal. Can't wait for the moment I'm gonna be able to afford at least 50% of this amount of experienced people to do VFX for my movies.
Lol ok
@Something Something Music yes i definitely pay good
@PoopieCon you pay minimum wage?
i can help you , i have a vfx studio , we do industry ready cheap vfx
ikr
I am so infatuated with Visual Effects... It's a good thing I chose it as a career path. I just love every bit of the creation process that goes behind it. Bravo to everyone who brought this masterpiece to life!
@😎 it’s all perspective. The working hours right now are not great but that’s the very reason you have to love to do it.
@😎 how so?
@Ismael Camarillo its a horrible industry fym
It’s a great industry, love the people and best advice I could give is having a positive attitude on anything you end up doing.
A huge downside for marvel is its so hard to shoot in NYC so that's why they are forced for use blue screen all the time... I remember at the end of FFH tom is with zendaya doing the final swing.. that was shot in NYC but it took so long to shoot because Papz and people kept walking in front of camera's.
@Ben L. facts, it’s why they were able to do stunts in venice and Prague etc, they just can’t do that in NYC anymore
@Eric Hamm bro how would you make an iconic spider-man movie without it being set in NYC? Spider-man IS New York. It's one of the reasons why I didn't love FFH as much. Most marvel heroes live in new york, and their most iconic battles in the comics take place there too. It IS that hard.
@Eric Hamm e.g most of moonknight was filmed in london… you know why? Bc it’s set… In london lmao
The sad thing is that nobody knows who he is or the team. It's crazy that we know the side characters and they have millions of fans but nobody knows him or the team
@FourCGames only read what I’m looking for. You wanna read every single names then by all means
Not true, VFX leads and Cinematgraphers get lots of credit for production. But outside of VFX fans or movie fans, why would a general audience care who supervised in production?
@Sharkie Alami Yeah I'm sure you read every single name in the credits..
He’s in the credits. You don’t know cause you’re lazy
Dang, seeing Tom Holland do all the movements and flips in real time. Much props, he is a literal Spider-man
I can listen to him breaking down the whole movie scene! this is beyond awesomeness.
I would LOVE to see a VFX breakdown of the final fight scene that would be awesome!
I would love to know more about that Green Goblin entrance, what they wanted to do and what they ended up going with, I was actually really excited to see a fight with the goblin early on especially with the old suit. Really awesome stuff and bravo to the visual effects team for bringing this stuff to life.
Well I learned it another video that they did want to do a huge fight with the Green Goblin in his original 2002 suit but they thought that the scene was a little too over stuff as how I understood it so they just decided to keep the fight between Spider-Man and Doc Ock and then just have the Green Goblin the introduced right at the end of the scene. I definitely would have liked to have seen Green Goblin being the fight on the bridge but I'm more than pleased with the final version that they went with.
14:30 15:54 Shout out to practical for these insane stunts! Must have been fun to watch on set.
love your videos 💖
Love ur vids
I agree that practical effects often look better than vfx, but most people dont recognize that vfx is almost always invisible. Vfx isnt just in the explosions and costumes, it's in the trees and sidewalks
They did a really good job making this movie, full of talented people. I love it so much 😭
As a VFX student, this helps a lot to understand the industry.
Plz tell me where did u start to learn vfx. Im interested in learning vfx too.
@Son of nergal he talks about set extension alteting clips scheduling, what a big film with alot of vfx shots is coordinated talking about references about rigging and what the animators see mention mini tidbits such as the trash that pull a scene together dude i don't think you blinked and missed it you tpok a nap
@Son of nergal trust me you can learn a Lot with videos like this if you know a little bit of vfx
Theres literally no mention of the industry or tips or anything for a vfx student in this video, but alright.
This guy and the whole team of effects, camera and editing are the real heroes to me, what a job, one that i kinda want to do but honestly sounds like people are complicating stuff more and more
Considering the amount of shots they had to do, they did extremely well. The few mediocre shots that stood out were probably down to time constraints and the actual production not providing enough assets to the VFX studios.
I am always for practical vs digital. But this was awesome to watch. And I see many film fans say acting today is easier because so much of it is CGI. I disagree with that and say it's more difficult. The actor has to use their imagination and react to things that aren't even there. Or do silly things like talk to a tennis ball lol.
He conveys everything so casually and eloquently that it was a really nice experience. I appreciate seeing how much he cares for even the smallest details. Hope they can get him on again for more breakdowns like this.
I keep thinking “Marvel is Jsut flexing at this point- I’m so jealous” but I realize, it’s WAY easier to use building and animation skills to create a longer set extension, because of Covid, and I’m actually really happy they did this, they are masters and don’t have to worry too much, because a lot of times it’s not noticeable, but it’s really good
Not really, visual effects artists are not unionized and are underpaid and overworked. Marvel uses them instead of production workers who build sets etc are affiliated with unions cuz it saves them a lot of money
This is really great, as someone who wants to go into this type of area for a living, it's amazing to get to see how it's done!
This is amazing what they have to do in a big movie like this what they have to add to make a lot of it look real I love seeing behind the scenes of movies to see how they made it I have always been fascinated with all this.
This Makes Me Think That Doctor Strange 2 Is Gonna Be Insane Visually
@austinpyo nah he is right. I am sure Sam raimi wants to use as much practical stuff but with doctor strange they will use a lot of cg. It has improved so much since spiderman and even back then while he did use a lot of practical stuff, they were using more and more cg with each movie.
@Burgo there is no way Dr Strange's magic can be done with practical effects. Portals and mirror dimensions and all that stuff is impossible with practical effects. Don't be ridiculous
@Suprith Banakar What? It's a doctor strange movie. Of course there's going to be a lot of VFX shots.
Highly doubt that because of the extensive reshoots.
Watching this just enhanced my viewing and appreciation of the movie a trillion times over. Well done all who worked on this movie and thank you! So much effort for our entertainment; thank you 👏
I gotta say I specifically remember the car thrown into the water barrels and thinking how cool that looked that it had to be practical. Props to Port but there is still no beating those kind of shots
I would literally watch the whole thing if he discussed every big scene
The visual effects were truly spectacular in this film! They really did an amazing job!
Tom holland honestly did many of his own stunts, more than I thought he did... WOW!!! HE IS THE MOST ATHLETICALLY ACCURATE SPIDERMAN
@Travis Bickle also the most attuned to gymnastics out of the 3
Tom has learned Ballet which really helps.
How interesting it is to learn how my favorite movie was made! All the things we can do with technology these days...really love the creativity. It's totally impossible to believe that these scenes are all visual effects...
As an animation graduate, I live for these breakdowns
I love how tom still made real expressions even inside the cgi suit.Gotta give him the props!
This is crazy! I’d love to see a breakdown of the gear they use as a team of professionals given how GPU and CPU intensive this stuff is. Like the specs would be STUPID on those machines 🤯
Bravo! Well done to all the people that worked on this film. I enjoyed the breakdown 🙂 really good stuff
I love seeing how the effects were made and how the movie was made. This was a treat for sure, thanks for uploading this, and filming this during covid, man that's awesome.
Hopefully this is just the part 1 because I wanna hear the whole story of the visual effects of the 3rd act!
Kudos to you guys and your entire Special & Visual effects team it’s absolutely incredible the attention to detail you guys went to thank you!❤️
One of the most informative and well-done "Making Of" I've seen so far.
For some of these being cgi didn’t even look like it to me with what you’ve just shown us. Like that’s crazy. I want more please 🙏. Y’all have done a amazing job
I love seeing stuff like this and what goes into the CGI. I figured the fight scenes would be a lot of CG but the stuff like environments looked so good that you didn’t realize it was CGI. I’d like another part to this showing off the CG that went into the Dr Strange fight and the final fight as well
That's incredible huge respect to these guys and also tom is an amazing actor not only he does his own stunts but acting in 90% blue screen is a challenge
These VFX geniuses are the true heroes of the MCU who allow all these crazy worlds and characters to be bought to life
Well and that's the same people say that the MCU uses too much CGI but a lot of CGI has to be employed to fully realize the universe of the comments that were created many decades ago that's why the Marvel Comics I've only started to be adapted into movies in the 2000's because that's when the technology finally caught up for that to be possible. Try watching the 1978 version of doctor strange that was made for TV or the 1970s version of Captain America also made for TV they look terrible not just because they were made-for-tv it's just because the technology wasn't there to do it right.
Tom Holland coming up with the wrinkly suit idea is phenomenal!!
I'll be honest i noticed a lot of the visual effects and although i wish there was more real shots, it was the only way we could get this movie during pandemic so I'm OK with it. but i just miss traditional film making where a lot more is shot for real and looks real.
Kinda surprised that they didn't use the Volume for some of these shots. Disney owns it and I think it's at the same Atlanta Pinewood studios (or perhaps in the London studios) but it would have made certain shots easier for the crew and a faster post-production time
@Crystal Customs maybe. But other studios are building theirs too
@Mayowa Olusetire my guess is directors need to request it and disney projects(star wars and marvel) get priority
What I have noticed is that mainly only directors or cinematographers that worked on the Mandalorian have used it for their films. Greg Fraser (batman), Peyton Reed (Ant man and the wasp Quantumania), Taika Watiti (Thor Love and Thunder). AS time goes on more directors will get comfortable with the technology
I think they're building more locations for it to be used, but as others have said, they're using it for AntMan and Thor.
@Nick the Batman also used it too
I love stuff like this. It’s so interesting.
I love knowing how movies are made.
i like to imagine how this visual effects can become easier to make and way more realistic in the future.
Geez Tom Holland really is Peter Parker & Spider-Man! 👏👏
i wanna see him talk about the special effects in the dr strange vs spiderman fight :)
Same
Reaaaally great video. Best VFX breakdown yet. So detailed and interesting. More please!
Oscar worth it for just visual effects, I knew about special effects but man ... They managed to build a whole new world and make it look so real. I can't say what's real and what's not. That's why cinema is an art. Big applause for all that 2d and 3d animators that worked so hard to make this masterpiece possible...
One person that isn’t complaining about visual effects 👍
we definitely need more of this kind of content!
I love content like this. Great poetic and artistic film. Shoutouts to the whole team that worked on this Modern masterpiece
This was so interesting to watch! Absolutely amazing!!
They do all this just to satisfy our lives by taking out 2 hour and 28 minutes out of our day and pay 13$ to watch there masterpiece, I salute them💜
This video was very fun and interesting to watch, so cool to see how this amazing movie was made
This video is just... AMAZING. I could watch him talking about the entire movie without getting bored
23:03 for everyone wanting to see the alternative scene where Tom Holland’s Spider-Man fights green goblin at the bridge.
I love the production/editing aspect in addition to the acting aspects. So cool to get paid to do this stuff.
Kinda sad how more practical shots gets replaced or just for reference anyway. But yeah i get the reasoning behind it. And also makes me realize that a VFX supervisor kinda have a say about the directing especially in action shots.
As much as I like the Tom Holland Spiderman movies, the practical effects of Sam Raimi's films made it feel more raw and real.
Now let’s get a breakdown of the Raimi trilogy’s visual effects. Back then, CGI wasn’t as convincing forcing the visual effects department to be more creative and think outisde the box. Which is why there was weight to the action scenes.
Please get this man to do more breakdowns
I wanna do this when I’m older. It seems so cool and fun.
This is amazing and so interesting to watch! It's extraordinary and the next time I'll watch this movie I'll appreciate it even more.
13:16 Tom Holland doing all those flips in the real world. That's amazing.
I really like how he broke down the difference between a special effects and visual effects
13:13 Tom Holland really went full Spider-Man to do his own stunts while wearing motion capture.
As much as I love visual effects, we need to get some practical elements back because everything looks just like flat lighting on a blue screen and you can tell
@Franklo jpg only the iron spider costume. because you can't make that, metal just isn't that flexible. but the other cloth costumes are real whenever possible like the beginning web swinging sequence.. the fight and acrobatic scenes in this movie have more practical effects than let's see the raimi movies because the swinging scenes in raimi movies look particularly fake because of that.
@Bern completely wipe away with VFX, in none of those movies you see the real costume of spiderman is just lighting reference and that apply for a lot of things
dude a lot of the stunts and elements are practical effects.
once we get fully out of covid restrictions we'll get more practical stuff I'm sure.
Wowza! Just gives you a sense of amazement at how far CGI has come. Especially the reflections in the windows....
Yes! Now do a breakdown of the whole film.
Man i would watch a whole VFX breakdown of the whole movie
It's very telling that the only thing that really impressed me in the entire video was the stuff Tom Holland actually did. It's a shame they had to draw a Spider-man costume on him and lead us to believe it was the stuff that wasn't real.
These guys get to little credit for this amazing job👏👏
More VFX breakdowns like this PLEASE!
Tom is really talented wow
the fact that they did all of this in under a year is impressive enough
Him knowing the shot number LOL - working in animation and some shots you just see SO often the entire thing is embedded in your head frame by frame. Felt that.
Man who misses the show movie magic?? The best behind the scenes of fx for movies. This is something like that wish we can get more of this
Love the scene with doc oc how the car the college lady was in has a sun roof on outer shots and no sun roof on shots showing the inside
Well, they did a fine job! It's amazing!
Now I appreciate this movie even more
I love special effects, I admire them but I would like when in the future there are certified films with a "NO CGI" logo filmed the old fashioned way, and all that we see is true... I don't find it much more impressive... a guy who does his stunts in CGI, there's nothing going on emotionally, a guy who does them for real... (Jackie Chan for example).. a lot more emotional impact...
This is incredible - PLEASE can we get something similar for the final battle
I completely understand that using VFX is easier, but MAN... would've loved to see the goblin suit be practical. I know his "new" suit was practical and it looked GREAT.
You know, seeing and knowing all this stuff really makes me appriciate what the folks over in mission impossible do even more. I knew Marvel movies use an ungodly amount of CGI already. But i didn´t expect it to this extend.
@Dewoy1 DNEG worked on over 1,000 VFX shots for MI:fallout. And they weren't the only VFX studio involved in the movie.
Almost every single frame has some sort of digital enhancement. Like I said, they're just less honest about it.
@DECODED Not realy no. The first one had some obvious scenes for sure. But it got less and less over the years. They erase safty lines for the most part now.
There's a shitload of CGI is the MI movies too - they're just less honest about it.
I LOVE the mini science lesson on lighting that went into this! Too awesome!
Thank you for doing this, it was cool and educational!
As a New Yorker we would of been very angry 🤣 I appreciate the attention to detail without them being in the city. So fascinating to see ✨✨ thank you for sharing!
