Jordan Peele Breaks Down "Get Out" Fan Theories from Reddit | Vanity Fair 엔터테인먼트
I love how open he is about this. Not al directors/book authors are willing to confirm or deny theories in such a straightforward way
@MK-Ultra Mags maybe yeah. i love ur username btw with ur username bro we all know what its about truely
It's definitely cool to hear but I'll always prefer ambiguity. I like not knowing, even when we DO know. That shroud of doubt is usually what makes a film re-watchable
🤣 power of marijuana 😂
on ly stanley kubrik and few others admit it , they just finished dead after the movies thats it
Imagine making a remake of Get Out. But with all characters swooped in regards to their skin tone (black to white and so on). And instructed by a white male. Than I am quite sure it would be the most hated movie in the world, and the instructor needed to escape the Mars. The world is a crazy place right now
redditor: explains deep symbolism between froot loops and milk eaten seperately
peele: nah she just weird asf
@adonai yah “black is fashion”
well he did say that there was deep symbolism there. its just not symbolising the thing that the person thought it was. did you watch the video?
@adonai yah The theory was highlighting how she didn't want to mix the colors, and as Jordan stated, their whole plan was to essentially mix with different races - so the fact she wasn't mixing her milk and cereal doesn't make sense in relation to it being about race. Sorry for replying to a 6 month old comment lol
😂😂😂😂😂
"How do we show that she is insane?"
"How about we have her eat cereal and milk separately"
Well yeah, only villains do that.
@madampling Hello. Just wanted to let you know I saw this comment a year after you've posted it and you are actually INSANE
@madampling I mean I eat dry cereal too and flush it down with water lol but i eat the dry cereal as a separate meal. I hate milk so i use almond whenever i eat cereal with milk. This is a useless fact
English teachers be like: what is the hidden message?
Jordan Peele on the ukulele scene: Just play whatever.
that's one example, sure. but his answers about all the other questions indicate that there are a lot of "hidden messages". so english teachers are right here.
The power of pretention
@ArcticZombie haha right? best comment
this is the best analogy
I love the fact that u can make a simple story and people will make deep theories about it and the writers will be like “oh wow that would’ve been a great idea”
Its specially fub when directors go like "...yep, i TOTALLY meant that" but like, they're being very sarcastic about it, its a form of self awareness i really like
Simple creations birth complex imaginations
This is awesome, so glad Jordan did this. Far too often directors stay silent on their films, hoping for an air of ambiguity, but if you're anything like me I just want answers damn it!
because its done on purpose-sometimes they leave the answers open ended.so the audience can put their own twist on the various theories
Last place I expected to see you haha
But answers about what? The movie is very clear and concise about how it worksand what its objective is, so why make theories around it?
Fan: **Has really good theory and evidence to prove it**
Jordan: *Man, the power of Marijuana*
Hes right tho
Most of them are just over analysing honestly but if people can find their own intended metaphors and subtlety then that's amazing
Was it you? 😂
I read this as he was saying it.
Jordan peele: Her dress is white
Reddit: white represents she cleaned herself pure so she can start over with a new victim
Jordan peele: Her dress is fuckin white
wow you really misunderstood this video huh? he literally talks about how the cars were black for a reason. did you miss that part? why would you comment about how jordan peele supposedly doesnt add deep hidden meanings to his movies when this video is literally him talking about the deep hidden meanings he added to his movies?
Its symbolism
Lol
Also Reddit: I studied for 5 years…5 years of Rick and Morty that’s why I’m more intelligent than everyone here
@Alpril Llenares *overanalysis
The scary thing is this movie reminded me of a gentleman I met once when I was a teen. There was an older gentleman I knew that had a similar injury/wound as those with brain transplants that would frequent the barbershop to get his hair cut. But his injury was more gruesome. He wore a wig to cover the top of his scalp which was partially missing or something: so you could see part of his brain. And he'd have to treat the wound constantly to prevent infection. The only way you'd know is if you were in the barbershop when he was getting a hair cut. And he would only get the sides cut.
The barber thought I was mature enough, and that it was important enough, for me to see it. The gentleman reluctantly showed me and a few others. We were told that his injury was a severe reaction and treatment to an experiment he was involuntarily involved in decades ago that left him in such a state. That's when we began to have conversations about the Tuskegee experiment and other experiments involuntarily done to 'blacks' in the past. The barber thought it important for me and others to not only know that history but to know that it's not just history: there were still some of our people living with the consequences of such experiments. This was in the 90s in Detroit at Bob's barbershop on 7 Mile with Melvin the barber before he moved to Atlanta. Lost touch with Melvin but always wanted to say thank you to him for the free cuts for good report cards and such. I appreciate it
Excellent commentary.
Pin this one. It is too human to not be shared.
I absolutely loved and needed that story
woah
That's amazing.
The laugh he does after saying "I finally beat ya Jesse" is just the laugh he does for the ghost of Duke Ellington lol
knew I recognized it hahaha
My favorite theories are the ones that make the creators go:
“.... y-yup. I totally meant that...”
@Synth Bagel keep trying’
@Paul Brookfield Nah it bounced around screenplay competitions. Got good notes, but never got picked up.
@Synth Bagel Was your screenplay used in a movie?
When the director of High School of the Dead confirmed a fan's theory that the anime is in the same universe as Shaun of the dead at a comic panel at a convention.
More people should do this. Leaving your art up for interpretation usually starts wars about 1000 years down the line when everybody wants to be right about their own interpretation
I see what you did there
The "I finally beat you jessy" Could've been an iconic line
I think it would have been good if it was done subtley, like muttered while he was catching his breath
Afraid people might have criticised it a lot and it would seem too transparent
If they'd changed the medium to a Saturday morning animation style format for that scene, then yes it would have been very appropriate.
I thought it wouldn't fit with the overall tone and atmosphere of the movie which is chilling and depressing.
Too
I love that he says thank you and he clearly means it every time someone notices a detail he worked hard to include and give meaning.
This man is a treasure, protect him at all costs.
Reddit: *super analyzes the gigue
Jordan: I literally told the dude to play whatever
@Eric Park that “the curtains were red because they were red” thing is lame, it’s good to analyze stuff and most authors or directors aren’t going to spell out all their symbolism
The power of marijuana 😂😭🤣💔
I was dying when he was like “yeah, no. I just told him to play whatever”
for real, after he said the power of marijuana, i wanted to quit smoking. I cringed pretty bad.
I blame Language arts teachers
now this is exactly why I love psychological horrors the subtle hints and deeper meaning can make you reevaluate in life
The spot on theories and overanalyzed ones are both equally entertaining. There was one about Mace Windu having a purple saber - signifying the mix between light (blue) and dark (red) - but Sam Jackson just wanted a purple saber lol
jordan peele is an absolute genius he needs to make more movies
The amount of meticulous detail that Peele puts into his movie is why he is so successful. Legend. Everything has been thought out and the effort that must take is mind-blowing
I really like this. A lot of directors say cheesy things like "it's up to the audiences imagination" when theories are brought up. He is letting us know exactly what he was trying to say in his movie and I admire that.
Can I say tho I don't think it's cheesy i mean movies now days suck because everybody wants everything explained. When they leave it to us to decide, that right there is more fun. And it keeps you thinking. People take movies too seriously now and want every single detail to be explained as if it's real. Takes the fun out of the imagination.
@C H I L L thank you!!! 👏
@Dillon Goyette also no pics of them; they get triggered by the camera light.
@C H I L L I hear what you are saying: free thought and analysis...however, there has to be a logical order and method that is congruent with the Jordan Peele theory and ultimate p.o.v. I do not like it that anyones interpretation is legit because there HAS to be a boundary in order to understand the "Peele Theorem" in the Peele Universe. He has a whole universe of movies to follow with one driving p.o.v. If we were to absorb and accept EVERY theory, then the main p.o.v. will get muddled, watered down and lost in all the far out conspiracies...my art teacher (r i p Mrs Hilda) used to say: K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid).
After seeing get out, us, and now candyman I can say I am obsessed. I love the parallels, all of the thought provoking symbolism, and the deeper meaning in all of these movies. BIG fan!
Chris watches deer die (He watch mom die), Deer/mom (his trauma) watch him suffer, but he ultimately breaks free and uses the deer (his trauma) to overpower the enemy (He uses his past experiences to become a stronger person)
“I do the sound of the dying deer if you didn’t know that was me”
I can safely say I didn’t know it was him.
I love how open he is about this. Not al directors/book authors are willing to confirm or deny theories in such a straightforward way
It's crazy how one of the funniest men in the world is also an amazing horror director
One of the funniest men in the world? Wtf?
I really appreciate Mr.Peele’s transparency on the deeper meanings and messages in his movies. Not only because all of his movies have a real messages behind them, but you can rewatch them multiple times and look for certain hints/easter eggs and then brag about what you caught to your friends lol. Some authors and directors are all secretive and want you to make of the story whatever your mind creates, and it’s so off putting to me that I will just wont try to look for the deeper meaning because theirs no point if I won’t even know if I was right in the end! Lmao.
The "I finally beat you, Jesse" would have been actually pretty cool to see
he DESERVED that oscar
There needs to be a sequel to this movie that explores the origin of the “group” that Roman Armitage refers to, and also maybe have it revealed that this procedure was being done all around the world and explains many of the abductions that have taken place around the world
Love Jordan Peele he is definitely a Genius. Does Horror so well.
This man is hands down one of the best horror film directors of all time!
I just saw the movie, really f**** up movie, always makes me wonder where in the world someone would be capable of doing this if possible, because I totally believe some people would do this without looking back. Also, I find it brilliant that Mr. Peele is able to write a movie like this, maybe It's because I've only seen his comedy sketches on YT and I assumed that was his comfort zone... well done, one of those movies that slaps the brain!
Jordan Peele is a straight up legend, the oscar was well deserved
They practically had to give it to him, they wouldn't want to be called racist
Actually he's biracial or does that not apply because he looks black? I swear if I biracial person looks white and people call him white the other half get triggered but apparently not when it's this way around
Ifzal Maybe because django was incredible??? And so is get out?? The concept of race and the history of America is so fascinating and horrible that it would make sense such great movies like django and get out would get an Oscar. Not to mention that Leonardo was also in django so there’s that.
Jinisbae If it was about his race then he wouldn’t get it. Jin would be disappointed.
The fact he voiced the dying deer has me dying 🤣
The first theory was so good and made so much sense I had to question the movie all over again. It was kind of disheartening to hear it flat out denied, but I guess that’s why directors and producers don’t do theory videos. It’s really interesting to see though, since it never happens!
Learning that Peele is the one behind that deer sound and rewatching it again seems so hilarious now
I love videos like this - getting the inside scoop. And this movie is absolute cinema gold!
The GIGUE is up thing F*CKIN CRACKED me up tbh xD that shit was too on point to get debunked like that haha
JaxBlade seein you everywhere
JaxBlade whaaaat. KRclip comment crossover
Dude doesn't even know Bachs catalog there's no gigue in the second partita and it's in B minor not G lmao
This whole video is literally people thinking Jordan Peele is a master at making a horror film and him calling those people high. I love it!!!!!!!
I love watching how done he is with people pointing out the things he made really obvious vs his delight to people picking up on the actual single stuff he had
ngl I was never into the whole Key and Peele thing but I watched Get Out for the first time last night and it is legit one of the best pieces of cinema I have ever watched. Massive massive respect to Jordan Peele for this eerie tale which black man all over the western world can relate to. The writing was telling my life story at times. Hats off, Mr Peele.
I love Jordan Peele hope he makes more movies
This movie seems like a genius in storytelling. Will definitely look into watching this movie in the future
This was cool... especially that its so deep and so many people picked up those little hidden gems... Bravo to you guys that figured this stuff out! =)
I wish the video went for triple the time, I could listen to Jordan all day. I loved this movie. ❤
I like how much detail and thought he put into this movie. Changed my perception of Jordan peele forever. He needs to write and direct more movies.
He’s the Tyler The Creator of the film industry
On god
Funny you mention that, because they’re both Pisces ♓️
@Jayden S. no bc they have a similar like “straight up” kinda sense of humour and they’re sarcastic and brilliant at their art forms
You should see his comedy
@Jayden S. no because they're extremely creative
I wish more people made more good movie like this!! 😫😫
I can't remember how many times I watched Get Out, but coming across this interesting video made me wanna watch it again tonight. Great and deep movie
Jordan is hands down my favorite director and writer.
Wow, this makes me appreciate this amazing movie even more!!
The "I finally beat you jessy" Could've been an iconic line
he sounded like duke ellington specifically off big mouth when he said that
. ..
I feel like it would've been too on the nose, too obvious. get out is a movie where people should be rewarded for noticing implied things like that.
RIGHT ugh I wish I could see it
Who would say that this person played such eccentric characters with Key and yet the way he interacts with his fans is just fascinating.
He's just so chill and down to earth.
Love Peele! Amazing person!
Great movie...well thought and put together cleverly entertaining.👏👏👏
This was by far the best movie I've scene in a while, Jordan did amazing!
No matter what I love your movies please don't stop making them I look forward to just looking for anything and everything you make thank you for what you do
FINALLY I can watch this! Took me too long to sit down and watch this movie. Was worried I'd have it spoiled for me before I got the chance!
I've literally never seen this movie before clicking on this video. So, I proceeded to rent it on amazon and watched it just so I could understand some of these theories. Situation handled.
The more I hear him talk about this film and all the little hints makes this film and especially his mind even more incredible
Mr. Peele, you’re a genius... thank you for sharing a tiny bit of your vision with us.
JORDAN WAS THE THE DEER DYING SOUND 😂
He was proud of that too. He’s a goof and I adore him ^~^
Omg I felt that
HUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHH :'(
That def got me
I WHEEZED
I'm glad I formed all theories by myself. Especially the 'Running fast theory becasue black people are physically superior' theory, the 'attempt to stop his smoking habits for their own benefits' theory, the 'deer seeing him die' theory, and the 'Rose didn't allow the cop to check his ID because the cop would have information about Chris once he gets reported as missing' theory.
Anyone else have other interesting theories?
Holy cow these guys are such good comedians and actors this is the first time I've actually heard him talk out of character
"Some of y'all... are crazy," Says the guy who thinks up a movie as disturbing as "US" lol. 😂😱
He is good at what he does. That's for sure.
All this time I was wondering why I don't see Peele in movies despite his remarkable acting skills and HERE I AM DISCOVERING THAT HE'S THE DIRECTOR OF ONE OF THE BEST THRILLER MOVIES OF 21ST CENTURY
Died at Jordan Peele doing the dying deer sound. Would not have known it was him!
💀🤣
J
Jordan Peele didn't realise he was baited 0:13
Fr
I played a role in get out also, I make the tree sounds
Shroooooo
I've seen this movie 8 times, love it so much
Just listening to you makes me so happy. Love your comedy
The amount of detail in this movie is incredible
Jordan Peele might be the most important force in modern horror.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste
@Nova Pier ha
Yes it is
Your so edgy xD do you look like this 👨🎤 probably cus your so edgy
Amen to that!
Great movie, great story! Well done sir!
Watched this with my friend who is currently in a interracial relationship, no i dont refer to them as that on the usual its just significant in this case, and man she freaked out. It was funny I didn’t even expect her to be all that squeamish about since its really more thriller then horror but ig the psychological aspect of it really messed her up oops.
😂😂😂
I am so proud of Jordan Peele. Very talented bloke.
7:26 this part actually made me laugh so hard. Even though it may be 1-2 seconds short, like the look he gave.
I absolutely cannot wait to see what Jordan Peele does next.
Do you think he'll do another movie? Nope
NOPE
Ikr
He’s producing the new Candyman movie :)
us
This movie easily became one of my favs, its such a good watch!
i picked up on a few of these hints, like the no smoking and the grandpa running, but seeing so much more was put into it, wow what a great in depth movie. jordan is definitely one of the best screenplay writers of this generation
Man... you guys are way above me at movie interpretation. I’ve never thought about ANY of these things. I just loved the entertainment and crazy story line. I don’t get into movie analysis. Sorry JP. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Jordan is so awesome and talented! I love get out. Loved us too but man that was a weird movie
This… is actually one of the most interesting “interviews” I’ve watched. They should do more like this!
@Olivia Martin:
My ex called me a cyborg constantly; go figure...
Olivia Martin u like black men??
For all we know you are a bot too lol
Bedcorn I guess I'm dead inside in real life anyway. Might as well be a bot created by Vanity Fair, too.
Showing what they are explaining is awesome.
This shows that any comedian has a different side to them. I never wouldve imagined jordan making horror movies
Funny thing, When I first watched the trailer of this movie, I thought that the groundskeepers were ghosts and that the Family were modern slavers
The Ghosts were killed by the Family, and simultaneously were attempting to warn Chris about their intentions and also kill him due to their previous life.
the deer scene was the one that made me cry the most. it just looked so sad and lifeless
How is he still funny without being funny? This man is just too charming
"A mind is a terrible thing to waste"
The whole plot explained in an ad...
WOW what a smart movie, what a smart director!! :0 I didn't know all these incredible details and connections before! So much care and precision wow I'm amazed
Honestly this movie was so good all the subliminal messages and the all underlaying tones of racial themes like I really wish that I watched it when it came out but was unable to, but god this movie is a masterpiece
Rose is truly an amazing character, it would be worth it to make a movie about how she became who she was
I can’t believe this is the same guy who played meegan during key and peele
@James Scott oooh, that line still sends chills down my spine...which is why, for me, it seems obvious that Jordan Peele was going to become a horror writer/director.
Why not? Meegan is a truly terrifying character, if anything it was a sign of his future as a horror writer/director
@Canais Young MADtv over snl anyday.
@greenman394 tbh some of the MADtv stars end up with way better accolades later on. I’m thinking of Ms Swan... SNL has some comedic gold stars but they tend to remain in comedy
@Canais Young kuel. Nice Funfact💚💜💙💛
I didn’t care for the movie too much but I love him and these videos are so interesting 😂❤️
He is a great director already.. I can't wait to see what the future brings.
one of my favourite movies of all time...so well done!
I love how most artists are ambiguous with their meanings; jordan is like nah thats not it, that was random
Jordan Peele: Creates "Us"
Also Jordan Peele: "The power of marjiuana"
Us is pretty lame.
And even though Get Out is really full of details, it doesn't really scare me.
Honestly him using the deer to kill the guy was comical
@Chief i wish i was high on potenuse
Weed is 😘😘😘 should try it.
HUZUHHH
@ThatOneAsianBroChick weed doesn't make you insane? I know what you meant but you don't smoke weed so you don't even KNOW. Like BRO you DONT EVEN KNOW BRO COMON BRO ITS JUST WEED BRO. Bro weed bro just weed you know bro?
Yoooooooo I just seen Get Out last month… I absolutely wish I would’ve given it a chance when it came out. This film is going to be considered the greatest horror flick of its generation. Mark my words
Plz always do these ur hilarious 😂
I love his movies, Key & Peele and this video for sure, but it would have been nice to see a video like this with Stanley Kubrick.
Jordan peele is amazing, love him and his movies
